A new year is making it's appearance. While we have experienced this before, I do believe that this will be a season of making a mark, making a difference in the world, in our immediate world. It's all about giving, and usually giving before receiving if that is the point. In America, we are still recovering from the 9/11.

I was speaking to some fellow travelers in October about wanting to fly to New York City to help out. They were from Long Island. The intention was good, however the large majority of my friends were unable, like myself, to make the trip just to be available. Perhaps we would have been "in the way", more than likely not assignable to rescue stations. So we sent monies, items in short supply, toys, correspondence of support. The people there will never know how many people wanted to be a neighbor, albeit so far away. Then, in my city, we experienced a significant loss so close to home that it left us short of breath. Again, the suddenness of the unexpected has marked us with an acute awareness of the moment and what we are going to do from here onward. Priorities are shifting rapidly in the midst of "life goes on".
