Hi all Arizona Alumni!

Welcome to the first calendar of events for you. The official website for us is under construction at the University, so until it is ready to go I will post our activities here temporarily. Thank you for your understanding.  We should be ready with our own website in early Fall. It is designed but not functioning.

I look forward as your Current President of University of California Arizona Chapter which encompasses all ten campuses for the first time (hooray), to plan with some help from anyone who will please volunteer some fun events that will bring us together on a regular basis.  I just returned from Berkeley for the Alumni conference and had conversations with other club volunteers as to what type of events have proven successful over the years. As you may know, our club has been on standby for a few years, so we are excited about our renewal and with your help and suggestions this should be an amazing year for us. I need several things, since I am flying solo so far. Indications of interest groups, willingness to co chair one event, a treasurer, and a website manager.

We have zero in the treasury, don't know what the details are about that so far, but we will open a new account asap.

I have experience in heading up groups so have knowledge of how to set this up and keep it running.  I was your Pres. for many years in the '90's.

I need to hear from you:  hpugh@worldnet.att.net

I suggest some areas of interest and would welcome other ideas:

Games of course:  Cal plays U of A in October in Tucson.........we will organize a get together for that...........help........need schedules of other campuses games here/away please..

Happy hour:  I suggest the first Thursday of the month at El Chorro Restaurant, free food until 6:30pm...no host bar.  East Lincoln Drive (aka Glendale if coming from Phoenix) and 56th Street, north side of Lincoln. Charming patio style areas that we can claim as ours, 5:30-7:00.  Driving directions:  101 to Via de Ventura exit, west to Scottsdale Road, left/south to Lincoln Blvd., west/right to El Chorro. Scottsdale Road is approx. 72nd Street. Or 44th Street north, becomes Tatum, and east on Lincoln a few blocks. Look for our blue and gold colors on the patio. Valet parking is available.  This is a "landmark" restaurant, and you can stay for dinner afterwards if you would like.

QUESTIONS?? CONTACT HELEN PUGH AT hpugh@worldnet.att.net

He is holding 20 seats in each of three price sections.  We can have more if we need them. I need to know how many of you will join us pregame in the 300W front area.  I can order some appetizers etc.

Dinner with a Professor.  This takes advance booking. They love to come here, especially in the winter, so I will follow your lead re suggested speakers.  In the past we have had astronomers, coaches, brain specialists, etc.  So please give me some ideas here and I will request the speaker(s). Sometimes an alumnus hosts the speaker, sometimes the Univ. arranges a hotel. We can have this at a local restaurant that will give us a private room.  Suggestions please.

Hiking club.  I have hiked many trails in the state and would really like to take this exhilarating activity up again. Anyone else? Winter and springtime.

Joint meeting with Tucson group.  We could meet halfway, or there, or here in Maricopa County. Perhaps at the game?

With all the teams we represent, there are meets and games nearly all year long: basketball, track, etc.  So, if you are knowledgeable and want to turn out to support your team, please let me hear from you.  hpugh@worldnet.att.net.

Oh, yes, the Cal/Stanford game. We always have had fun getting together with the red group, they are very friendly.  We used to meet at a sports bar, hotel, etc.  If you would like to join in let me know.  We even have an "ax plaque" that was passed back and forth to the winners, which Jon Shawl and Marty Sours had made for us.  Haven't seen it in awhile.

Lastly, we can have 4 broadcast mailings to all Arizona alumni residents of all ten campuses, per year, courtesy of the university.  I want to make the most of it, so need to hear from you re interests and .........help..........

The list is huge, possibly 10K names, and they hold it in strict confidence and erase it after 30 days. I had to sign a contract with them agreeing to their terms.

So, please pass all of this on, while our own site is under construction, and we will move to that one when ready.  Call me anytime:  480 948 0550 o  or 602 309 4445 m, leave a message please. Mailing address: Helen Pugh,  9366 E. Raintree Drive, 101, Scottsdale, AZ  85260.

Thank you, and GO  Blue and Gold!

Helen
